Welcome to our new home!

As you may know, we started as a more profanely named site several years ago. It was along the lines of “Fudge Yeah Camping.” Only we didn’t use “Fudge.” We used the word. The big one. The queen-mother of dirty words. The “F-dash-dash-dash” word!

While it was a funny name, and even more fun to randomly yell out while camping, we wanted something slightly less alienating and more encompassing of all the outdoor things we enjoy.

After much debating about URLs and feeling like all the good ones were taken, we accidentally landed on theoutdoortypes.com and boom: A new website was born.

Our Tent Is a Little Emptier Now

It feels strange remembering a dog on a camping blog. I know this isn’t the sort of thing you come here.

But it would be equally strange to let Nabby’s passing go unmentioned on this blog. Whenever I told someone that “We’re campers,” in my mind, “we” always included our dogs.

Nabby the Camping Corgi, 2001-2015

On Thanksgiving, our beloved Nabby became very sick and we had no choice but to let her go. She was exactly 14 years and 5 months old.

Nabby was named after my favorite hockey player, retired San Jose Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov. Although I chose her name before I ever met her, it suited her perfectly. She was just… Nabby.

Weekend at Table Mountain in the Angeles National Forest

Table Mountain might be as close as we ever get to having a vacation home. Going there is (almost) always so pleasant and relaxing. By the time you finish breakfast on Sunday and are over camping, just pack up and go – you’ll be home in a couple hours.

A few weekends ago, we went with my best friend since college, her husband and their girls.
