This weekend, I went back to Pacific Palisades to do the Los Liones hike again. It’s fast becoming a favorite.
The trek was tougher than I remember. The hills seemed a little less forgiving; there weren’t as many flat and downhill stretches as I remember.
But it’s a’ight – it just makes reaching the top that much more exhilarating and the sense of accomplishment that much greater.
I began the hike a little earlier this time, starting around 7 a.m. At this hour, people are surprisingly friendly and cheerful. Everyone passes one another with a “good morning.”
Because it is. We’re hiking next to the ocean on a beautiful weekend and we are so damn lucky. The grumps begin to emerge after 9 a.m.
Starting early was key. This week has been so hot – 108˚ on Wednesday, temps in the low 90s before 8:30 a.m. – and there isn’t a lot of shade on this hike. Sure enough, it warmed up quickly on the way back down and I was grateful to be on my way out.
Next time, I’m going to try to drag Darren along!
